What is a School-Based Career Assessment?

Schools must provide a quiet, well-lit space (minimum of 10 ft. of open space and a space large enough for a table and two chairs, which face each other across the table).

  • Each student spends approximately one day of one-on-one assessment time with the evaluator.
  • The McCarron-Dial System is utilized to determine the overall functioning level of the student; however, students also have the opportunity to utilize a variety of additional work samples.
  • A written report will be provided with recommendations to assist in the student’s preparation and transition to work.

  • The assessment will identify the student’s vocational interests, abilities, strengths and weaknesses.
  • The McCarron-Dial System is utilized to determine the overall functioning level of the student.
  • Allows the student to utilize a variety of additional work samples and experience simulated work activities outside the school environment.
  • A written report will be provided with recommendations to assist in the student’s preparation and transition to work.

The assessment is typically four days, Monday-Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Schools must arrange transportation to and from our site. Assessments are provided with a staff-to-student ratio of 1:4. If more individualized attention is needed, a school-based career assessment should be requested.
