Admission requirements and procedures

Applicants must meet the following admission requirements:

  1. Possess a high school diploma from an accredited secondary school, equivalent (GED ®), or a Home study Certificate or transcript from a Home Study program that is equivalent to high school level and recognized by the student’s home state.
  2. Participate in an admissions interview.
  3. Achieve the minimum passing score on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).

Applicants who do not achieve the minimum required scores, but are within a reasonable range, will be referred to Goodwill Literacy Initiative for free basic skills remediation.

2. High School/college diploma/transcripts or GED/Home School transcripts– Candidates are required to submit their official credentials that verify the high school diploma or GED was awarded. 

Admissions procedures

Once all application materials are received, prospective students will be notified to schedule and take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and to schedule a personal interview with the Assistant Director and lead instructor of their intended program of study. This meeting gives applicants an opportunity to discuss their educational and career goals, learn more about the program and program expectations, and ask any additional questions. It also provides an opportunity to ensure that the applicant’s goals and program goals are compatible.

After the applicant has submitted all application materials, taken the TABE, and completed the admissions interview, the application will be reviewed by the Assistant Director and faculty. An authorized representative of the school will notify the candidates in writing of the admission decision. Upon acceptance students will complete an Enrollment Agreement. Tuition includes classroom and lab instruction as well as books and course materials.

A registration fee of $25 is due upon entrance into the program.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate and receive a diploma in a Program of Study, the student must meet the following requirements:

  1. Successfully complete all course requirements including externship in the Program of Study 
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 
  3. Satisfy all financial obligations to the school

Graduation ceremonies are conducted twice a year.

Externship

All students are required to complete a 160 hour externship relative to their program of study. GETC staff work with students to locate an externship site that meets the students' needs, as well as the company's.

Placement assistance

GETC recognizes that employment is the goal for all students. We are committed to preparing each student to conduct an effective and successful job search upon graduation. Each student will receive career development instruction as part of the core requirements for graduation. This class covers such topics as resume development, cover and follow-up letter writing, finding job leads, effective interviewing, and strategies for career advancement. Job placement assistance will be provided upon request to each student who successfully completes a Program of Study. GETC does not and cannot guarantee job placement.
